Hi All.

Thought I'd make my first post on the 'Say Hello' board.

I was introduced to isl at the weekend by Dan Lofthouse (I assume he is Studio54Dan) after sending him a message via FaceBook asking for advice on portrait photography lighting. Needless to say, Dan was a true gent and we had a good telephone conversation which has really helped me out.

About me : Well my day job is as a Project Manager for Lloyds Banking Group however my evening and weekend job is as a wedding photographer. I'm covering about 10 - 15 weddings a year at present.

I suppose I'm self diciplined with wedding photography, meaning that I have shaped my own approach to capturing the essential shots of a wedding whilst remaining efficient and descreet. What this invariably means is that I'm fast and have little or no time to tinker with lighting.

What next / Why am I here : Wrongly or rightly, i'm happy with where I'm at with Wedding Photography. My plan is to become more proficient in portrait photography which I hope will aid my wedding photography style and enable me to make more use of multi-flash and off camera flash whilst on wedding shoots.

My specific query to Dan was : I've got the opportunity to do a 'corporate' shoot in early March. The brief is 'head shots against a bright white background'. I have a white Lastolite pop-up background and 1 interfit 150i flash unit which i'm bouncing off of a white umbrella. I also have a white reflector. After some test shots though, I found that my BG was grey. So I was hoping that I could (cheaply) use my hot-shoe Sigma flash to brighten/blow-out the background. I accept the set up will be rudimentaty and not technically correct, but I'm hopeful this will work.

Dan gave me some pointers so my set up will be...

- The interfit 150i flash unit into unbrella to my left.
- The white reflector to my right.
- The Sigma hot-show flash fired through mini softbox aimed at the BG placed on the floor, behind the subject.

I'll be doing some more test shots once all of my additional purchases have arrived and i'll maybe post up some results.

Thanks for your time.

Rich.
